Unfortunately, this year, the world of esports in the UK has also had to deal with some very sad news, namely the passing of Epic Gamer Grandma, whose real name was Agnes. The Scottish grandmother of 78 years old rose to the status of icon in the British esports community, where her TikTok account helped her to become Scotland’s biggest elderly creator. Therefore, we are also taking this festive opportunity to remember Epic Gamer Grandma, whose love for video games knew no bounds, despite her age.
Millions of followers
If you have been involved in esports in the UK over the past few years, it’s hard to imagine that you’ve never heard of Epic Gamer Grandma. Her sincere love for gaming in combination with her sharp and sometimes outlandish humour made her a unique member of the community and a much-loved creator for millions of players and fans of esports in the UK. She amassed an incredible 2,4 million followers on TikTok, almost a million followers on Instagram and no less than 118.000 subscribers on YouTube. As a gamer and a grandmother, she more than left a mark on generations of players and gaming fans.

The impact of Epic Gamer Grandma on the wider UK esports community is also very apparent in the reactions of that same community to the sad news of her passing. The sad moment took place in the morning of December 21st, 2025, and since then the messages of support and respect have been pouring in. Besides major gaming and entertainment outlets like Dexerto and VICE dedicating articles and social media posts to Epic Gamer Grandma and her impact on the wider gaming community, thousands of followers paid their respects as well.
