University of Kentucky is organising Esports Summer Camps for UK kids

11 July 2023

Esports in the UK are growing and nowhere is that more apparent than in the education system. More and more schools and institutions are offering esports and/or esports-related courses, as the added value is increasingly recognised. Recently, the Angus Council in Scotland announced that they will be launching the country’s first esports curriculum for primary education institutes, for example. Just before writing an article about that, we also published a piece about the Uswitch research into which UK universities have the most gamers (spoiler: it’s the University of Warwick). This time though, it’s about the launch of the esports summer camps launched by the University of Kentucky, which are exclusive for kids from the UK. After all, what’s education without interesting and most of all fun summer camps?

Youth Esports Summer Camps

The University of Kentucky Smart Campus, which is located in Lexington in the US state of Kentucky, has announced that it will be launching its first esports-focused youth camps this summer. There will be various day camps as well as a week-long camp for children ages 8 to 14, with different camps for different age categories. All of the camps will focus on the same topics though, ranging from gaming and tech education to strategic thinking, learning how to work in teams, and the art of competitive gaming. And the best part of all is that all camps are free of charge and exclusive to kids from the UK.

One Day Camp (Pixel Pioneers) – ages 8 to 10

July 31, 2023 | An esports day camp for the very youngest gamers, introducing them to the world of (competitive) esports. At the same time, they will learn valuable skills for everyday life as well, like communication, critical thinking and teamwork.

One Day Camp (Console Commanders) – ages 10 to 12

August 2nd, 2023 | The Console Commanders camp aims to take youngsters to the next level when it comes to esports and gaming. Strategy plays a big role during these camps, as do digital sportsmanship and the improvement of valuable gaming skills.

One Day Camp (Game Gurus) – ages 12 to 14

August 4th, 2023 | For the oldest of the eligible kids, the Game Gurus Day Camp adds a healthy degree of competition to the program. As the name indicates already, it’s all about unlocking maximum potential and becoming true Game Gurus here.

5-Day- Camp (GameFusion Esports Camp) – all ages

August 7th, 2023 – August 11th, 2023 | The University of Kentucky is also organising a 5-day camp this summer, which is open to kids of all ages. The GameFusion Esports Camp is entirely focused on introducing participants to different game titles and genres, with an important role for battle royale, sports, and strategy games. Fighting games and multiplayer online battle arenas, like Dota 2 and League of Legends, are also part of the curriculum. The students will train in groups and they will also have the chance to benefit from 1-on-1 coaching.
