Over the past few years, more and more athletes and sports personalities have found their way to the world of esports. Perhaps one of the most well-known projects is KOI, the esports organisation that was founded by former FC Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué and his partners, back in 2021. Closer to home, more and more professional footballers are getting into esports as well. Last summer, for example, Liverpool FC captain Virgil van Dijk became ambassador and shareholder at Tundra, while former Manchester United attacker Jesse Lingard founded his own organisation for esports in the UK a few years ago, called JLingz. The latest Premier League star to dominate esports headlines is Liverpool forward Diogo Jota, who recently invested in multinational esports organisation Galaxy Racer.

Rebranding for Diogo Jota Esports

Earlier this month, Dubai-based esports and gaming organisation Galaxy Racer announced that Jota has become an investor in the company. The Portuguese attacker is no newbie to the world of esports though, because he was already the owner of his own organisation, Diogo Jota Esports. As a result of the investment in Galaxy Racer, this organisation has become part of the Galaxy family and was rebranded to Luna Galaxy.

“I am delighted to join forces with Galaxy Racer and embark on this exciting venture”, said Jota in about the new partnership, “Esports has the potential to captivate millions worldwide, just like football, and I’ve been able to experience both first-hand. Through this partnership, I hope to bring Luna Galaxy to a whole new audience of gamers and sports fans alike”.

Big launch for Luna Galaxy

Besides participation in esports tournaments all over the world in various titles, Galaxy Racer has also become a prominent organiser of esports events themselves. The teams belonging to Galaxy therefore have the opportunity to compete in a wide range of titles. Luna Galaxy, for example, will initially be active in Dota 2, FIFA and Rocket League. The FIFA activity in particular is of interest to the organisation, because of the presence of Diogo Jota, but that’s not all. Diogo Jota Esports was active in FIFA as well and they recently managed a top-16 finish during the FIFAe Finals.

More major changes on the way for Galaxy

The addition of Diogo Jota Esports to Galaxy Racer and its subsequent rebranding to Luna Galaxy is not the only promising development at the organisation. According to various media sources and industry experts, Galaxy Racer is currently also discussing a merger with digital media entertainment company Riva Technology and Entertainment (RTE). As part of this deal, Galaxy Racer would be usurped by RTE and rebranded as Celestial. The ambition of RTE is to pursue aggressive growth in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) area and India over the coming years, and to become the premier media and sports conglomerate in the region.
