Dplus KIA win 2024 PUBG Mobile Global Championship in London
11 December 2024
Back at the of July of this year, we wrote about the decision of Infinite Level, the developers behind PUBG Mobile, to hold the grand finals of the PUBG Mobile Global Championship 2024 in London. The event, which marked both the conclusion of the PUBG Mobile 2024 season and yet another milestone for esports in the UK, took place at the ExCel Auditorium in the British capital from Friday, December 6, to Sunday, December 8, 2024. The South Koreans from Dplus KIA proved to be the best of all, though they only beat co-finalists Regnum Carya Bra Esports from Turkey by just a single point in the Grand Finals Standing.
Dplus firing to the top of the table
The PUBG Global Championship 2024 got off to its start last month, when the Group Stage got underway. Eventual champions Dplus KIA were given a spot in Group Green, together with big names like Middle Eastern esports organisation Brute Force and Brazilian esports organisation INFLUENCE RAGE, as well as their future opponents in the Grand Final, Turkey’s Regnum Carya Bra Esports.
As a result of a fourth place in the Group Stage, Dplus missed out on direct qualification for the grand finals and instead had to advance through the Survival Stage. They did so with flying colours though, finishing second in the table with 12 points less than leaders D’Xavier From Vietnam. This allowed them to prepare for the Grand Final at London’s ExCel Auditorium , which took place last weekend.
Despite not clinching a direct qualification spot from the Group Stage, Dplus KIA travelled to London as one of the sides to keep an eye on. They quickly showed why that was as well, as they blasted off into the weekend. When the smoke settled, the South Koreans had secured three victories and a total of 153 points (59 Placement Points and 94 Kill Points). That proved to be enough to win the title by the narrowest of margins as Regnum Carya Bra Esports managed just a single point less than them.
“It has been another fantastic year of PUBG Mobile Esports and witnessing the final tournament here in London has been one of its biggest rewards”, said James Yang, Senior Director at PUBG Mobile Esports, after the PUBG Mobile Global Championship 2024 Grand Final, “The PUBG Mobile Global Championship is always the most highly-anticipated event of the year, and we’re very grateful for all the players, coaches, staff, and fans who have devoted their time to experience this incredible moment together. I want to say a huge congratulations to Dplus for their victory, and to all teams for giving it their everything. We cannot wait for next year, where we know the players will continue to beat records and set new standards.”
PUBG Mobile also took the opportunity to announce that they will be investing more than $ 10 million in 2025 to develop grassroots esports. This will include support for prize pools, third-party tournaments and events, and minority-focused initiatives.
