Manchester City announce brand-new Rocket League team
9 December 2025
Fans of the Premier League, fans of esports in the UK, and fans of Rocket League; attention! Manchester City have just announced the creation of their very own Rocket League team, thanks to the acquisition of the former team “2 Danes 1 Bruv”, consisting of William “ejby” Lorentzen, Christian “TempoH” Mortensen and Aston “Accro” Smith. The new Man City Rocket League roster was immediately put to the test as well during the Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS) 2026 – Boston Major: Europe Open 1, where they finished in sixth place. Not enough for a spot at the Kick-Off Weekend, but still good for $ 4.800 in prize money (around £ 3.602).
Manchester City and esports in the UK
The RLCS 2026 – Boston Major: Europe Open 1 marked the first time Manchester City ever sent in its own Rocket League roster. Considering they are a football club, that can be called quite surprising. First of all, because Rocket League is a football-based video game, and second of all, because the club has been active in the world of esports since 2016. They started with their own FIFA roster back in the day (which is an EA FC roster nowadays) and later added their own team in Fortnite as well. Rocket League is Man City’s third venture into the world of esports in the UK and the rest of the world.
“Man City Esports are delighted to announce our brand-new Rocket League team”; Manchester City write on their own website, “The organisation is launching our first squad in the exciting, extremely popular video game and will begin competing in the professional space this weekend, with the team set to make our debut in the RLCS 2026 Kick-Off Weekend. The event will see the best teams in North America and Europe go head-to-head in the hopes of securing a place at the Boston Major. And our first game will see us take on NOVO Esports on Friday evening.”
RLCS 2026 – Boston Major
The creation of Manchester City Esports’ new Rocket League roster was announced on Thursday, December 4th 2025, and their first match was already waiting for them the next day. The team entered the Playoffs stage of the RLCS 2026 – Boston Major: Europe Open 1, where they faced NOVO Esports from Italy on December 5th. Despite a strong start, the English organisation eventually lost to NOVO 3:4.
Man City got off to an almost perfect start, winning the first two matches 3-0 each (Mannfield Night and Forbidden Temple) and then also winning the third by one to nothing (DFH Stadium). NOVO looked all but knock-out, but the Italians somehow managed to get back into the battle. They actually did much more than that, because at 3-0 down in matches, they got one back (1-2 on Utopia), then two (0-1 on Boostfield Mall), then three (0-1 on Neo Tokyo). Like that, it was suddenly 3-3 and Manchester City had squandered the lead. Both teams gave it all they had in the seventh and final game, and a 2-3 victory eventually saw the Englishmen crash out of the RLCS 2026: Boston Major: Europe Open 1 in sixth place. Their first run earned Manchester City Rocket League $ 4.800 in prize money.
