PGL to invest at least $ 22 million in Counter-Strike 2 ecosystem

6 April 2026

As every year, for many event organizers and platforms, this year started with a lookback to some of the milestones that were achieved in the world of international esports in 2025. In that sense, one of the most interesting conclusions was that Counter-Strike 2 was, by some difference, the title that paid out the most prize money overall.
While this naturally meant great news for all CS2 players and fans, tournament organizer PGL clearly only saw this as the sign to push on. The Romanian company recently announced that they are planning to invest at least $ 22 million in the worldwide Counter-Strike 2 system over the coming two years.

6 premier events per year

As part of its ambitious 2027 – 2028 roadmap, PGL has announced an investment of at least $ 22 million, which means at least six premier tournaments per year, minimum. The company is introducing a new PGL TIER 1 Program, which will feature the traditional and very popular PGL format for matches. On top of that, PGL will implement a comprehensive financial and participation framework to support the world’s elite teams from 2027 onwards.

As for now, PGL has only revealed the dates for the Counter-Strike 2 events in 2027, but locations are not known yet. For the 2028 season, neither dates nor locations have been revealed yet. Int terms of locations, for the moment we only know that the first two events of 2027 and at least the first event of 2028 are to take place in the Schengen area (European Union + Iceland + Liechtenstein + Norway + Switzerland).

Long-term commitment

With its most recent announcement, PGL is putting its money where its mouth is by emphasizing its commitment to the wider Counter-Strike 2 ecosystem. It provides a certain level of stability as teams now have a minimum of two full seasons to plan and prepare for. A structured, fixed calendar like this one in the long term helps teams to build sustainable rosters, secure for similarly longer-term partnerships, and make investments aimed at the long-term health of their own organizations.

“Our biggest commitment yet to Counter-Strike”, writes Silviu Stroie, CEO at PGL Esports, on X, “At least 12 events over 2 years, with a commitment of at least 22 mil USD. Our best offer yet, which I'm pretty sure will be embraced by all the teams, players, and the community. We are now finally able to compete with any other CS2 event out there and will carve our way. All the incentives in our program will attract the best possible CS2 teams and players to participate in our events. Looking forward to delivering more great events to the Counter-Strike community.”
