Time for the 2025 Wimbledon eChamps!
10 June 2025
After the success of last year’s inaugural edition, it was only a matter of time before the announcement of this year’s Wimbledon eChamps would be made. It nevertheless took the organisation some time to get everything in order, but now, a few weeks before the start of the real-life Wimbledon Championships, the word is out: the 2025 Wimbledon eChamps will be taking place on July 18 and 19th, live at the All England Club. Great news for tennis fans and great news for esports in the UK in general.
Two games
It will only be the second edition of the virtual Wimbledon Championships ever, but already a major change has been made to the format of the tournament. Or better said, a major extension has been added, because the second edition of the Wimbledon eChamps will feature an additional game. Besides TopSpin 2K25, which was already played at the tournament last year, the upcoming edition will also feature mobile game Tennis Clash. This means that two different Wimbledon eChamps champions will be crowned this year; one in TopSpin 2K25 and one in Tennis clash.
“We were delighted that last year’s Wimbledon eChamps received such an incredible reception from fans around the world”, says Usama Al-Qassab, Marketing & Commercial Director at the All England Club, “Thanks to the ongoing support of our Official Partner American Express, we are proud to bring the Wimbledon eChamps back for a second year. The addition of the Tennis Clash mobile game means we can give more members of the gaming community the opportunity to qualify for the in-person finals hosted at the All England Club in July.”
Open Qualifiers
The 2025 Wimbledon eChamps start with a qualifying stage, which will take place entirely online. The leaderboards for both TopSpin 2K25 and Tennis Clash were launched on Monday, June 9th, which marked the start of the qualifiers on each of the two platforms. Everyone from the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Spain and the United States can compete, as long as they have a PS Plus subscription (the Wimbledon eChamps are played on PS5) and a copy of the PS5 game.
“Tennis and sports gaming are huge passions of our Cardmembers globally, so it’s important for Amex to continue to show up where they are”, says Shiz Suzuki, VP Global Brand Sponsorships and Experiential Marketing at American Express, sponsor of the 2025 Wimbledon eChamps, “We’re thrilled to continue partnering with the AELTC as they expand the Wimbledon eChamps tournament this year.”
Finals at All England Club
The best players from the qualifying stage will earn a place for the 2025 Wimbledon eChamps finals, which take place in-person at the legendary All England Club, where the traditional Wimbledon Championships are played as well. This live event will be played on Saturday, July 18th, and Sunday, July 19th, 2025. The winner on each platform will get a fully-packed weekend in London, including tickets to the Wimbledon Championships, which will be played from June 30th to July 13th, and to British Summer Time music festival.
