London Esports rebranded to Fourth Wall, new events announced

9 February 2023

We had the introduction of the new British Counter-Strike Association (BCSA), the launch of the Welsh Esports League, and the first Discover:Esports conference in Newcastle in the past few months; just a few examples of very promising projects and developments in the world of esports in the UK. The country is quickly growing into one of the most advanced regions in the world in terms of esports, thanks in great part to the many exciting initiatives that are being taken. The recent launch of esports organisation Fourth Wall is another great example, as the new organisation was created by several veteran industry experts and aims at uniting the esports community in the UK while also competing in League of Legends NLC Division 2.

Fighting for LoL in the UK

For the creation of Fourth Wall, the organisation London Esports was completely rebranded and restructured by a team of four industry experts. They know each other from X7 Esports, the UK esports organisation that recently ceased operations and where they were all part of the management. Alfie Wright founded London Esports and functioned as its CEO before becoming X7’s Chief Operational Officer, Tony “Newts” Newton founded Bulldog Esports and worked at X7 as director esports, Robin “Robinho” Cheng managed Absolved Esports before becoming head of League of Legens at X7, and Nile “Oldboy” Lynch is a former academy team manager at X7.

The idea is for each of the founders to hold similar roles at Fourth Wall and the initial goal of the project is to bring together the League of Legends community in the United Kingdom. It was just a few months ago that the title was virtually declared dead in the UK after the Northern League of Legends Championship (NLC) lost its accredited EMEA Regional League (ERL) status. Developer Riot Games restructured the European League of Legends setup and this resulted in the ERL for the UK, Ireland and the Nordic countries becoming a non-accredited ERL.
“With NLC losing its accreditation and other changes, LoL in the UK is probably at its most desperate point, since I’ve been around in esports”, explains Alfie Wright, CEO at Fourth Wall, “So, let’s take a crack at it. I think we have really good ideas, we have brands that want to work with us. We have talented people like Robin, Newts and Nile and others to be announced soon, so let’s still carry on with what we did at London”.

New events coming

Fourth Wall wants to revive the League of Legends community, in a way, by focusing more on uniting that same community. That’s why the organisation wants to hold two events every week to engage with the community. The plan is to run regular productions of their games in-person with live audiences, casters and hosts, in East London. On top of that, the organisation also wants to offer panels and prizes. Dates and locations have not been confirmed yet, but are expected to be announced shortly.
