New Call of Duty release predicted for August, rumoured to feature zombies

12 May 2023

When it comes to esports in the UK and in the rest of the world, Call of Duty has been one of the big players for some years now. That’s also why any sliver of information about the release of the newest title in the franchise is extremely highly anticipated by both players and fans of the game. While Microsoft is looking for ways to buy the game’s developer Activision Blizzard, in spite of the British Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) objecting to the move, rumours regarding the upcoming Call of Duty release have been rampant of late. Recently though, well-known Call of Duty leaker Tom Henderson claimed that Activision will be making a big reveal this summer, including an official confirmation of Zombies mode.

Major Call of Duty leak

If Henderson’s statements are true, you can expect the anticipation for the new game to grow even further over the coming months. Zombies mode is a fan favourite after all and to include it from day one of the launch would be a major move by Activision. In various other instalments of the franchise, like Modern Warfare 2 for example, this was not the case. Henderson’s leak is backed by the fact that the new Call of Duty game is currently being developed with the help of Sledgehammer Games, who have included a Zombies mode in every game they have worked on since the release of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare back in 2014.

The news about Zombies mode being included from the get-go is not the only exciting part of Henderson’s most recent leak, though. Besides adding that the official reveal by Activision is planned for Tuesday, August 1st 2023, he has also provided more information on what kind of game the Call of Duty will actually be. Until now, there has been a lot of discussion amongst fans and followers in regard to the upcoming release and whether it will be a full premium release or more like a DLC (downloadable content) for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Henderson claims that, while Activision’s initial plan was to release a DLC, they have now decided to create a fully new game in the franchise.

Important dates for Call of Duty fans

As is usual in the build-up to major game releases, not a lot of details have been provided so far. According to Henderson, the first reveal will take place on August 1st of this year, but the release date of the actual game is still a big unknown. For the moment, the expectation is that the beta version will be released in October of this year, followed by a full game launch in November. Like that, the new Call of Duty title should be completely up and running by the time the holiday period truly gets underway.
