Esports in the UK: Looking forward to 2025

And just like that, the year 2024 has come to its end and a new year is about to start. A new year full of esports events in the United Kingdom, that is, because 2025 hasn’t even officially started yet and the esports calendar is looking more than promising once again. Therefore, we have decided to take a look at some of the major esports events that will be taking place in the UK in the new year. One thing is for sure, though: another great year for esports in the UK looks to be upon us!
BLAST Open Fall 2025
It’s kind of difficult to start a list of major esports events in the United Kingdom in 2025 with any other event than the BLAST Open Fall 2025. From August 27, 2025, to September 7th, 2025, the second BLAST Open of the year will be taking place at both BLAST Studios (Group Stage) and the OVO Arena Wembley (Playoffs). The eyes from Counter-Strike 2 fans all over the world will be on London at the end of the summer, as the best teams in the world will be competing for a share of the $ 400.000 prize pool (around £ 319.152).
RLCS 2025 Birmingham Major
“The 2025 RLCS [Rocket League Championship Series] Season will host its first arena event of the year in Birmingham, returning to the United Kingdom in the process. RLCS 2025 Major 1 is set to take place at the bp pulse LIVE Arena, National Exhibition Centre (NEC) from March 27-30 [2025]”. That’s what Psyonix, the studio behind Rocket League, announced at the end of October 2024. As a result, British fans of Rocket League and esports in the UK overall once again have a Major to look forward to, after the RLCS 2024 London Major back in the summer.
2025 Pokémon Europe International Championships
Perhaps not as big a pure esports title as previously mentioned Counter-Strike and Rocket League, but a cultural phenomenon nonetheless; the Pokémon Europe International Championships (EUIC) are guaranteed to grab the attention of thousands of gamers and fans when they take place in London from February 21st to February 23rd. The event will be held at ExCel London, the famous exhibition and convention centre in East London, which has the capacity to welcome tens of thousands of visitors. At the 2025 Pokémon EUIC, participants will be competing for more than $ 500.000 in prizes, as well as for Championship Points and the coveted World Championship invitations.
RuneFest 2025
Possibly one of the biggest disappointments of the year 2024 in terms of esports in the UK was the last-minute cancellation of RuneFest 2024. The event was supposed to take place during Insomnia Gaming Festival 2025 after a five-year absence, but it could not be organised in the end. The organisation wants to make up for that though, by bringing RuneFest to the United Kingdom in 2025 instead, to Birmingham to be precise. On Saturday, March 1st and Sunday, March 2nd, RuneFest 2025 will be held at the Birmingham NEC, currently known as Bp pulse LIVE.
