League of Legends is bringing Monthly Cups to United Kingdom
4 March 2026
Lately, there has been plenty good news for fans and followers of esports in the UK. Fortnite fans got exclusive South Park skins and sim racing enthusiasts have a brand-new British Sim Racing Cup to look forward to, thanks to Motorsport UK. And now, we have got something for the many League of Legends players and fans in the United Kingdom as well, because it has just been announced that the UK Esports League (UKEL) is bringing the Monthly Cups to our region. The first editions are set for the weekend of March 21st and 22nd, with the following Monthly Cup taking place in April.
League of Legends Monthly Cups
The announcement of a new event or tournament for esports in the UK is practically always good news, so let’s dive right in. The Monthly Cups are tournaments that are, as the name implies, organised every month and will serve as an addition to the existing UK League of Legends calendar. The UK Esports League already organises two seasons of the national League of Legends league and the Monthly Cups will sit alongside that existing structure.
“Kicking off in March we’ve got new tournaments coming to the UK through the UK Esports League (UKEL)”, writes Riot Games, the studio behind League of Legends, “Following on from the successes of UKEL’s 4 Nations Divisions 1 and 2 we’re expanding out the offering to include monthly tournaments for all players within the UK! Get your team together, get practising on the Rift and we’ll see you on March 21st for the first of many iterations this year!”
Can anyone compete?
The simple and short answer is “yes”, but you do need to be part of an eligible team. That is, a team of which a minimum of three players is either a UK citizen or based in the United Kingdom. Each player needs to be registered individually before the team can be registered as a whole, so that the organisers can verify that teams meet the requirements before confirming entry.
You can only register teams that consist of the full five players needed to compete. Once you have formed a team and each individual team member has created a Challengermode account to register. This is the tournament platform where all matches, brackets, and results are managed. You then navigate to the UKEL community page and sign the team up for the Monthly Cup that is active at that moment. All that is left to do after that is attending the mandatory captains meeting on March 21st, which will take place about an hour before the March Monthly Cup kicks off.
£ 500 prize pool
As the cherry on top, the UKEL has also announced a £ 500 prize pool for every Monthly Cup. The prize money will be divided between the three best teams of the tournament, with the split depending on where each team finished. The best-performing teams might also earn an opportunity to compete for a spot in UK League of Legends Divisions 1 and 2.
