Motorsport UK announces renewed Four Nations Esports Cup
2 July 2025
The month of June has been a fruitful one for esports in the UK this year. Just a few weeks ago, we got the confirmation of the 2025 Wimbledon eChamps taking place this year, after the success of last year’s inaugural edition. And now, another household name from the UK sports world, Motorsport UK, has announced another long-awaited event, the Tri-Nations Esports Cup. Or better said, the Four Nations Esports Cup, because the organisation has added South Africa to the sim racing event’s participants, besides Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
Tri-Nations Esports Cup becomes Four Nations Esports Cup
Motorsport UK was expected by many to continue their organisation of the Tri-Sports Esports Cup, which has been a success since the first edition back in 2022. Still, it took them a while to come out with the official confirmation. This July though, we know now, will be marking the start of the fourth consecutive edition of the event and Motorsport UK added a big surprise to the reveal. The Tri-Nations Esports Cup has been rebranded as the Four Nations Esports Cup, as the organisation decided to add South Africa to the mix. The country will be joining ruling champions Australia, plus New Zealand and the UK.
“The much-loved Tri-Nations Esports Cup is back from July, with a new nation joining the trifecta, as the Springboks (South Africa) will see the event relaunch as the Four-Nations Esports Cup”, writes Motorsports UK on their own website, “The sim racing event began in 2022, with the UK and Australia battling it out to gain the Esports crown, before New Zealand joined the event in 2023. Australia were reigning champions in 2024, but this 2025 the competition is set to heat up as Motorsport South Africa will join the virtual grid.”
Two phases
The fourth edition of the Motorsport UK Esports Cup will be divided into two phases: a qualification event and the main event. The qualifications, in the form of a 48-hour time attack, will take place on July 19th and 20th, with racers utilising the iRacing platform and the McLaren 720S GT3 EVO with a fixed setup. The main event has been planned for August 4th and will feature a total of forty (40) drivers. Each country will be represented by ten drivers and they will compete in two 30-minute races, one at Bathurst and one at Silverstone. The country that manages to score the most points over the two races will crown itself as 2025 Four Nations Esports Cup champion. It will be particularly interesting to see how South Africa will fare at their first Motorsport UK Esports Cup.
“The Four-Nations Esports Cup plays on the established sporting rivalry between all four nations and it’s a really fun, competitive event”, says Paul Crawford, Head of Esports at Motorsport UK, “With drivers set to compete from four different ASNs and time zones, it truly showcases the accessibility of Esports. May the best nation win!”
