Scottish Esports League finally returns, with £ 5000 prize pool
13 May 2025
There was a lot of hype around the creation of Esports Scotland back in 2023, as it was supposed to represent a major boost for the overall esports community in Scotland (and therefore for general esports in the UK). Since then, though, the organisation has been largely dormant due to financial issues, which resulted, among other things, in the delay of the Scottish Esports League (SEL) in both 2023 and 2024.
A lot has happened behind the scenes since then, including a take-over of Esports Scotland by businessman David Hamilton, who merged the organisation with his own eRena Sports brand. The goal is to turn it into the leading force in the Scottish esports industry and with that in mind, they recently made a big announcement. Later this year, after an absence of more than two years, the Scottish Esports League will be returning for a sixth season!
“David Hamilton is excited to announce the acquisition of Esports Scotland marking a significant milestone in the Scottish esports landscape”, eRena Sports wrote in a message on their own X account last year, “Esports Scotland will merge with eRena Sports, where David is the majority shareholder. The expanded entity, which will operate under the eRena Sports brand has ambitions to build a significant presence in both grassroots and professional esports in Scotland and beyond.”
Promising partner
It’s understandable if you take the news about the relaunch of the Scottish Esports League with a grain of salt after what happened in the past two years. Everything points at better times for the organisation though, as David Hamilton’s eRena Sports brand has brought in a major partner for what should be Scotland’s premier esports competition in Dundee and Angus College. As part of the institute’s push into the world of esports, they launched the country’s first officially recognised esports curriculum in the summer of 2023, while also setting up their very own Esports Studios facility on campus.
Registrations are open
The Scottish Esports League 6 will be taking place later this year and registrations for the playoffs are open already, until June 15th. These playoffs will take place online between June 27th and August 17th in a best-of-one, single elimination format for each of the esports titles involved: Counter-Strike 2, League of Legends, Overwatch2 , Rocket League and VALORANT. The finals will be offline and are set to take place between September 5th and September 7th at the previously mentioned Dundee and Angus College’s Esports Studios.
To make things even better, tickets to attend the offline finals at Dundee and Angus College in September are free of charge. Spots are limited though, so if you want to witness the action in Scottish Esports League finals from up close, make sure you get your ticket as soon as possible. Besides that, all of the action will also be provided free of charge via the official Twitch channel of the Team DA Dragons, the esports team of Dundee and Angus College.
