Team Nemesis, the UK's newest esports organisation

4 February 2025

If you have been following esports in the UK for a few years at least, you most likely have heard of Into The Breach, often referred to as simply ITB as well. The esports organisation was founded in the UK in 2020 and competed in different titles and disciplines, including Counter-Strike and League of Legends. Into The Breach recently got into the national esports news for different reasons though, as they suddenly announced their closure due to significant mismanagement. It turns out now that there is a silver lining for fans and players after all, because a few days after announcing that Into The Breach ceased trading, a new UK esports organisation has formed from its ashes: Team Nemesis.

ITB staff continues

“In the shadows of the gaming underworld, Team Nemesis is looking for new blood. Every game, every battlefield – we want the best. If you’ve got the skills, the grit, and the hunger, send us a DM.”

That’s the first Tweet you would have read on Team Genesis’ brand-new X account if you had visited them a few days ago. Or actually, the very first (pinned) Tweet read “Reborn from the ashes to continue building our legacy”, clearly announcing a new beginning for what was formerly known as Into The Breach. Under a new name, “Team Genesis”, the former ITB staff (including ITB Head of Design & Media, Kuba Wieczorek, and Chief Strategy Officer, Momo) have not wasted any time and decided to get straight back into the world of esports. Considering the name, history and expertise at their former organisation and the passion many of them still felt for esports, this was probably the best thing they could have done.

“The closure of ITB was a difficult moment for everyone involved, but what kept us going was the team’s shared belief in the potential of esports”, Team Nemesis told esports news outlet Esports News UK, “Despite the challenges, the core group stuck together because we all share the same vision: to grow, develop, and elevate esports in a way that’s sustainable and fair. Nemesis is built on that same vision. It’s not about forgetting the past, but about learning from it and moving forward with integrity. We’re still figuring things out, but your support means the world to us as we take these first steps.”

Ruined by CEO

While we are always happy to see new esports organisations popping up in the UK, the story behind Into The Breach’ downfall is actually quite sad. For the company’s employees and shareholders that is, because it is all thanks to former CEO and Founder of ITB, Sam “SlayTheMinotaur” Macedonio Cook. He recently admitted that he has been using company funds to finance his own lifestyle, which got more and more out of hand as time went on. Or as Cook put it himself after admitting to what he had done, a lifestyle that turned him into a “destructive, alcoholic narcissist hellbent on self-immolation”. He admitted to taking more than £ 600.000 out of the company to finance his personal expenditures
