Esports in the UK: 4 major events to look out for in 2024

2 January 2024

Earlier this month, we wrote a piece about the return of the Dota 2 ESL One event in 2024, to Birmingham to be precise, after an absence of four years, which is great news for esports in the UK. The announcement on December 12th followed just a few weeks after London’s O2 Arena was revealed as the location for the 2024 League of Legends World Championship Final. In other words, the calendar for esports in the UK is looking better and better, and these are just two examples of events that are set to take place here coming year. Therefore, we decided to take a look at the calendar as it stands at the moment of writing and highlight some of the major highlights to come in the new year.

2024 League of Legends World Championship Final

Seeing as we recently covered the announcement of the O2 Arena in London as location for the 2024 League of Legends World Championship Final, we will keep this one short. Nevertheless, we could not make a list of esports events in the UK  to look out for in 2024 without mentioning this one. It’s probably the biggest event to take place in the UK and Ireland region next year, and it will attract both the best LoL players around as well as worldwide attention.

ESL One Birmingham 2024

The same goes for ESL One Birmingham 2024, which is set to take place in the Midlands from April 22nd to April 28th next year. The event will bring the eight best Dota 2 teams in the world to the UK to compete for one of the most prestigious trophies in the game, as well as a prize pool worth no less than one million American dollars. We covered the announcement of the event in this article.

BLAST Premier Spring Final 2024

The fans and players of Counter-Strike have something to look forward to in 2024 as well, because from June 12th to June 16th, the BLAST Premier Spring Festival 2024 will be played at the OVO Arena Wembley. As usual, the Spring Final gathers the best CS players in the world, who will compete for a share of the $ 425.000 prize pool. The first two days of the tournament will take place behind closed doors, after which the final rounds will be played in front of huge live audience. After all, the OVO Arena Wembley can seat up to 12,500 spectators, making it the second-largest indoor arena in the UK capital, and the ninth-largest in the entire country.

PUBG Mobile Global Championship Grand Finals 2024

Every year, the Global Championship Grand Finals are the highlight of the worldwide PUBG Mobile calendar and next year, they are taking place in the UK. It will be the first time a major PUBG Mobile will be hosted in the United Kingdom and the first time that one takes place in Western Europe since 2018, which only adds to the excitement. Fans will have to be patient though, as the PUBG Mobile Global Championship Grand Finals are set for December 2024, but the enormous prize pool of no less than three million US dollars should comfortably make up for that.
